From For the Hearts
This is the outcome of my Wikiography project. It's a automatically generated database extraction of articles and their links from the English language Wikipedia pages. The seed article is George W. Bush and it's links to other Wikipedia articles were evaluated by a set of simple rules to determine if the linked articles were relevant to the map or not. If they were, the links to the target articles were followed and those articles evaluated. This too place in three hops from the initial article.
The extracted data was then parsed into .dot file that could be rendered into a map by the Open Source Graphviz software. The map was then placed in a 20m long document and relevant article texts from Wikipedia was placed on top.
I used my specially designed Kulby family of typefaces to set the text in 6,5 points, to be able to fit the large amounts of information while still being able to remain legible and readable.
Finally the document was printed and 'harmonica' folded into something that could be read as a broadsheet newspaper but also be unfolded to follow the connections in the map.
